What we do
What we respond to
The calls that come with protecting a large, rural service area.
Structure fires
Homes, farmsteads, and outbuildings across the district.
Grass & wildland fires
Fast-moving prairie and field fires, especially in dry, windy conditions.
Crashes & rescue
Collisions and extrication on rural highways and county roads.
Farm & equipment fires
Combines, machinery, and harvest-season incidents in the field.
How it works
The district funds it. The department runs it.
Two parts share the name. Knowing which is which helps at budget and election time.
Mandan Rural Fire Protection District
The public body that pays for fire protection, governed by an elected board.
- Sets the mill levy and approves the budget
- Owns the stations, trucks, and gear
- Holds public meetings and posts minutes
Mandan Rural Fire Department
The volunteers who respond, train, and keep the trucks ready.
- Answers fire, rescue, and emergency calls
- Trains members and staffs the stations
- Runs prevention and public education
Open to the public
District board meetings
The board meets in the open and posts every agenda and set of minutes. Residents are welcome, and questions about the budget and mill levy are heard here.
